IN FOCUS: Joey E. Toledo

On Tuesday, June 14, 2011, the Alternative Groove had the opportunity to experience the talent and skills of one of Mindanao Dance Artist Academy's fine dancer and choreographer, Mr. Joey Toledo. As young as he is, he was seen to have great talent of a wide spectrum of dance. What's more interesting is that he ventures into dance styles that are not much seen in the mainstream.

Joey, JET or Noy as what most of his friends call him, dances Jazz, Breakdance and many others. He has fine lines of execution. He does his routines cleanly and that he has deep creative choreography ideas. Alternative Groove has seen this great promise in him and has tried to arrange some time for him to share his skills on contemporary hiphop to the crew. As the group tries to venture on unexplored styles, Joey's style is definitely one of it. For several months the group tried to schedule his availability and it finally came on the day before he left to Manila.

It was not as easy as it was to be organized. Schedule was tight and unforeseen lines were crossed. At the end of the day, the group was thankful that it finally pushed through. Big thanks go out to Mindanao Dance Artist Academy for allowing the activity to happen; to Mr. Albert Oponda for the video coverage; to Jhoey Zulueta, Jonathan Endonela, Bboy Tribe and the jazUp Dance Crew for participating; to the members of the Alternative Groove who took time despite their busy schedules; and most especially to Mr. Joey Toledo himself for his generosity and whole-hearted sharing.

You're friends here in Davao will definitely miss you but at the same time they wish you the best as you venture into greener pastures. Always be guided by your dream. Focus on it and never let the enthusiasm fade away. Trials will surely come but if you are strongly anchored with your faith and determination, everything will be fine. You have what it takes to succeed on your chosen field.

Here's the video of the dance workshop conducted. Enjoy.
